Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Depaxcare is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

DEPAX CARE is committed to achieving net zero emissions.

We are implementing our carbon reduction strategy through two key sustainability programmes – Decoupling our Carbon and Going Circular. We are committed to aligning our operations to achieve “The Carbon Trust Route to Net Zero” which will validate that we are delivering against our near term science-based targets to reach Net Zero.

We are setting our net zero 2023 baseline to capture the impact of our business travel and related activity.

Baseline Year: 2023
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
Our Baseline emissions are a record of the GHG emissions that we have produced in the past, prior to the introduction of our strategies to reduce emissions from 2024. They act as a reference point against which emissions reduction can and will be measured.

Emissions reduction targets

In 2023, we have committed to becoming net zero with 2050 near-term targets, validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative, in line with a 1.5-degree scenario. This means that we have reset our baseline year to 2023.

Our commitment involves halving our operational footprint, including business travel, by 2050 against the new 2023 baseline, and strengthening    the way we embed climate action into our supplier engagement (with a target to have 50% of our supply chain emissions covered by suppliers who have set their own SBT), our client services and our market advocacy.

We will set out new interim targets from 2025. Progress against our 2023 to 2050 targets will be reported in our Annual Report.

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 20% tCO2e by 2028.

Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been selected for implemented from the 2023 baseline.

Energy Management

Our energy management programme will focus on consolidating and refreshing energy savings within our office space, operating more efficiently, and investing in new technology. We will invest in LED lighting, Water waste reduction and putting on devices only when required for use.

Technology

This year, we will work with suppliers and internal service owners to perform a carbon impact assessment of our technology, covering hardware, hosting platforms, HR and reporting platforms.  This will inform our future technology strategy. We will explore devices with technologies for auto switch on and off and energy savings.

Employee Engagement

As part of our net zero ambition, we know it’s crucial to bring our people along on the journey. This means training, raising awareness and enabling our people to build a confident understanding of today’s growing ESG agenda and inspiring them to play their part. We will have nominated Environment and sustainability Champions as part of our operations network.

Business Travel

We are a people business and so building and maintaining relationships and working alongside our clients, is key to our delivery of quality services. As a care agency our staff are expected to travel to meet clients and deliver our services. This means that business travel will remain a necessary part of the way we work. It is also the largest contributor to our carbon footprint and central to our net zero commitment. We will explore opportunities for carbon reductions relevant to our Line of Service and plan more purposeful engagement, in line with our/staff specific ‘carbon cap’.

Suppliers

To tackle impacts beyond our direct operations, we will ensure our supplier embrace Carbon Reduction policy and commitment. We will buy from green companies and hold supplier accountable for their own net zero journey.

Standards

We have purchased the ISO 14001 standard for our environmental management system, and the ISO 50001 energy standard. We will model our Environmental Management System to follow these standards.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard[1] and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting[2].

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard[1].

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
